The government has not had the funds to invest significantly in local schools and as a result in the area around the farm, Toleza has been working with teachers to construct class rooms to meet the needs of the expanding population. The farm has also worked to help improve the buildings of a number of local schools. In some cases this has been through the provision of timber, brick, cement and roofing materials.
Last year Toleza donated over MK208,000 to Sawali primary school to help to upgrade the classrooms. This was raised by way of payment to the school of MK9 for every KG of cotton purchased at the Toleza Sawali market.
